First month at cisco, Bangalore
Its been almost a month since I started my internship in cisco, Bangalore. By far, its been the best month of my life. New work environment, new place, new home, new flat mates and new friends
While I am writing this post, I remember the movie Wake up Sid and the feature by Konkona Sen on the “New Girl in the City”. I can echo her thoughts about “Would the stay in Blore been awesome without friends ?? ”
I reached Bangalore on 5th night and my internship was starting the next day. I am staying with my brother’s batchmates in Bellandur. Its a great flat with all facilities and my flat mates are awesome, always willing to help. Even though the office is just 4 kms away, it sometimes takes more than 30 mins ( read Bangalore’s traffic).

First Day :
I woke up at 7 and reached the office at 8 am (Woah !!). The place looked awesome in the morning and I took a couple of photos. This was the only that I was dressed in proper formals. We had to wait until the HR team came and escorted to a meeting room. We had a short orientation with a boring InfoSec session, inputs from employees. Then, we had lunches with our respective managers. It was a nice informal meeting with my team. After the lunch, we had a presentation from three banks who were offering us premium accounts as we had to open a account just for 2 months but I could enjoy the benefits for another 3 months . Then, we got our “goodies” ( T Shirt and Sipper) and our employee ID card. I was expecting a cisco bag !!
Once the meeting was done, I had a meeting with my manager. We discussed about the project and he gave me a 10 minute lecture on not to call him “Sir”. He’s one of the best manager you can have.
The first month was pretty fine with not much workload. It was actually like a paid holiday I had my first team lunch at Kyra in the first week itself, a sumptuous buffet and my team realized the extent of my appetite. The rest of the interns were very jealous with me . The second week saw the high profile visit of John Chambers and my second impromptu team lunch. I was just realizing how lucky I am. Since then, I have been having weekly meeting which end with cakes and patties
Oh yes, I made an awesome group of friends and we did all kinds of crazy stuff like playing bowling on golf course with the pool balls, night outs at cisco, midnight movies, amusement, Mysore and many more which can’t be publicly written . I saw a total of 8 movies in 25 days, my personal record.
Overall, its been a great learning experience and I will treasure for many years to come. cisco is a great company if you want to enjoy life as there’s a lot of free time.
LOL, This post ended up more like a public diary entry
