Guten Tag! Meine Damen und Heren!

Can you guess what the topic means ?

Don’t worry if u aren’t able to guess its ” Good Day ! My Ladies and Gentlemen ” . And the language is German . Now , you must all be thinking why all of a sudden I wrote the topic in German . Well , this is because today was my first class of German at MIT , Manipal , India .

Now , something about German :

German (Deutsch) is a West Germanic language, thus related to and classified alongside English and Dutch. It is one of the world’s major languages and the most widely spoken mother tongue in the European Union. Around the world, German is spoken by approximately 105 million native speakers and also by about 80 million non-native speakers. Standard German is widely taught in schools, universities, and Goethe Institutes worldwide.

Its ranked 10 . Its the third most taught foreign language in the English speaking world after French and Spanish .

Now , a question to all :

Wie ist ihr Name ?

( lets see who answers this , leave the answer as comment and in german )

As the “International Year of Languages” comes to an end on 21st February, you may be interested in the contribution, made by the World Esperanto Association, to UNESCO’s campaign for the protection of endangered languages.

The following declaration was made in favour of Esperanto, by UNESCO at its Paris HQ in December 2008. http://portal.unesco.org/culture/en/ev.php-URL_ID=38420&URL_DO=DO_PRINTPAGE&URL_SECTION=201.html

The commitment to the campaign to save endangered languages was made, by the World Esperanto Association at the United Nations’ Geneva HQ in September.
